And for all sons and daughters of the tundra a happy raven feast!

A long time ago, the raven looked down from the sky and saw that the people of the world were living in darkness. The ball of light was kept hidden by a selfish old chief. So the raven turned itself into a spruce needle and floated on the river where the chief’s daughter came for water. She drank the spruce needle. She became pregnant and gave birth to a boy which was the raven in disguise. The baby cried and cried until the chief gave him the ball of light to play with. As soon as he had the light, the raven turned back into himself and carried the light into the sky. From then on, we no longer lived in darkness.

(The Legend of the Raven as it is told by Marilyn Whirlwind in the Northern Exposure Episode “Seoul Mates”)

Last Minute Present

Ahhh… 23rd of Dezember and you still need a present for a friend? No time to buy anything and money is running low?
Well, inspired by Vik’s flower brooche post, I decided to crochet some last minuit flower pins. The pattern is not my own idea but it is so old that I consider it “open source”and dare to write it down.

close each round with sl st in first st of round

1. With Yarn A: Ch 3, 17 dc in adjustable ring (18 dc), cut off
2. Attache yarn B: (ch 3, sk 2 st, sc in 3rd st) 6 times
3. (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch 3 sp, cutt off
4. At the flowers back attache Yarn C at any sc of 2nd round: (Ch 5, sc around next sc of 2nd round) 6 times
5. (sc, hdc, 5 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch 5 sp
6. At the flowers back attache Yarn D at any sc of 4th round: (Ch 7, sc around next sc of 4th round) 6 times
7. (sc, hdc, 7 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch 7 sp, Fasten off. Weave in loose ends

Christmas present #2

This hat, modeled by my son and well as by my boyfriend, is a cristmas present for my dad. It’s the “Avalanche” hat pattern from the Rugged Mountain Snowcap Collection by Crochet Garden. One hat pattern is $3.25, and you get all 4 for $6.00. They are really worth the money. Especially I enjoyed that I didn’t had to count the stitches of each round, because of the clear cables and frot/back dcs structure. If you first want to try one of Etaria’s patterns for free, download the Thick Warm Crocheted Winter Hat as acrobat reader pdf file from Crochet Garden and crochet a hat like this one:

You even might be lucky and become one of the pattern testers for Crochet Garden.

By the way, the yarn I used for both hats is Alpaka by Schachenmayer:

100 % Alpaca
Needle size 3-4 mm
50g length 100 m
Approx. 21 x 29 stitches per 10 cm x 10 cm (4 in x 4 in)
Hand wash
