Snowflake Monday - 9 Flakes So Far

It’s monday, time to show you my snowflak output so far, finally.
I couldn’t get the “99 Snowflakes” book in germany and so I bought “60 Crocheted Snowflakes (Dover Needlework Series)” instead. Ria’s “Stiffen Stuff” works very well for getting these little shriveling beasts in shape. It looks like I’m getting used to the fine thread at last. By now I’ve 9 snowflakes all toghether - Tadaaaaa!

Presents

Perhaps somebody might have asked, where are all those snowflakes, you have promised us? After all, this year is now 27 days old and nothing has happened in this blog since New Years Day. But inspite of complaints I get presents as if it was my birthday. I can’t belive it and I’m dancing around, all over our appartement! At first I got a awesome “random act of kindness” parcel from a wonderful fairy at Watchet, U.K.. Dear “Mother of all needles“: This is the very first RAOK present I recieved and I’m not sure how to express what fun and joy it meant for me! Thank you so much! The parcel included an issue of the american crochet magazine “Crochet World” (my very first american crochet magazine, yoo hoo!), a pattern for a baby blanket, a great super soft cotton yarn and a cozy postcard from Somerset. Have a look:

The very next day(yesterday) , I got another parcel. Ria at Ballostring blog had announced before that she would send me her “experimental hat”, that I admired at her blog. She beliefes, nobody would like to wear it. That is an obvious misbelief, I am definately going to wear it, because that hat is brilliant!

Moreover, Ria told me, that this hat is her very first own crochet design! I’m going to esteem your hat as long as it’s yarn will last, that’s a promise, Ria! As well this beautiful big crochet hook (Size 11) made of wood, I’ve never seen something alike here. But the parcel included even more wonderful surprises: Yarn by Berroco (”Foliage”, absolutely nice colors), some handmade soap (smells great!), a cute and very graphical brooch with a desert and cactus motif (I wonder if that one is also handmade, Ria?), Self stick notice pads (how did you know, that I just run out of those lately?), a picture of far away Uxbridge in Massachusetts (now I can imagine better, wher you live), a bottle of “Stiffen Stuff” (for the snowflakes, I’m going to test it right this weekend) and last but not least a cute little muppet critter for my little boy.

Thanks. thanks, thanks… I was abdolutely choked up when I unwraped all your wonderful things, and I’m still stirred. It’s an amazing experience to get to know people around the world by the internet , that’s should be enough of an present anyway. But the fact, that somebody - you’ve never even seen before - bothers herself by carefully chooseing presents and wrapping them, moreover spends a lot of money only for the shipping by airmail, that is simply fantastic! I’m deeply moved and speechless!

New Years Pledge

snowflake! Yummy!

I WISH YOU ALL A VERY
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2006!

It is a strange tradition to spoil the new year for oneself with new year’s resolutions when it has just begun, but I can’t help it. I’ve joined the “Snowflake Monday” webring and I hereby pledge that I will crochet one snowflake every monday in 2006. Whether it is january or august, 2006 is going to be the year of the snowflakes! It is going to be hard, because thin thread and skinny hooks are not my strong point at all. By the way, if you know a good method for stiffening those little bastards, please let me know. So far I’ve tried sugared whater with the result that my little son now thinks they are goodies. Thank You Sou from the Good Yarns blog, your article has exposed me to the Snowflake Monday. Sue, where did you get that “99 Snowflakes” Book? I wanted to put it on my amazon wishlist, but I didn’t find it among the amazon products.
